Actor-Musician Lab NYC
4 weeks - July 2026 - $500
Wednesday evenings, Brooklyn Arts Exchange
Are you looking to bridge the gap between your technical skill and your storytelling? My name is Grace, and I’m an actor-musician in Brooklyn.I know firsthand that being an actor-musician is a specific, thrilling, and sometimes overwhelming medium of storytelling.
This 4-week Lab is designed to help you refine your audition book, troubleshoot technical hurdles, and build an actor-musician community here in the city.
Some of what we’ll dive into together…
Uncovering your superpowers: Brainstorm together to identify the specific genres and styles where you feel most like you.
Developing your instrument as your scene partner: Share strategies to stop "playing at" your instrument and start acting with it.
Applying technical ease: Discuss applicable tips for maintaining vocal support and physical alignment while you play.
Expanding your material: Share fresh repertoire ideas tailored to your unique skill set.
Only 7 spots are available for this lab!

About your lab leader, Grace:
Grace’s journey as an instrumentalist began with classical piano, eventually expanding to lessons in guitar, drums, and bass. A proud product of Wisconsin’s arts education - including First Stage Children’s Theater and KIDS From Wisconsin - she went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Theatre and Music from Northwestern University, specializing in Music Theory and Musical Theatre.
Before moving to NYC in 2026, Grace spent eight years in the Chicago theater scene, where she carved out a distinct niche as a multi-instrumentalist actor. Notable actor-musician credits include The Penelopiad (Goodman Theatre), Hundred Days (Kokandy Productions), and Across the Sand (Northbrook Theater). These productions also offered Grace her first opportunities to serve as Music Captain, create supplemental compositions, and have a hand in sound landscaping.
Most recently, Grace took on a gargantuan actor/musician challenge: starring as Cathy Hiatt in a self-accompanied production of The Last Five Years at Milwaukee Repertory Theater. Alternating between piano and acoustic guitar while navigating Jason Robert Brown’s score, the production demanded a seamless blend of nuanced acting, vocal stamina, and onstage conducting. Grace credits this professional opportunity as the greatest challenge and proudest success of her career thus far.
Grace looks forward to creating an artistic community and refining both her acting and musicianship skills in this city overflowing with artistic opportunity. She is proud to be a member of the actor-musician community and can’t wait to celebrate it with you.
